You can grow it floating or wedge it between rocks at edge of pond but it can become invasive if you don't have koi to eat it. It is easy to pull out though, so not too much of a concern.

It didn't survive my winter but for others it comes back.
We are 6b, the pond I have parrots feather in freezes solid (fishless pond, shallow) the stuff comes back every year. Looks like dead mush in the spring.

Plant 3- may be a Potamogeton sp. like natans. It is a submerged plant. Just a complete guess though.
