Water Lily Short Blooming Time

Either a raccoon is eatting my water lily blooms or they are blooming then quickly (within days) dying back. Any ideas?

mine did not bloom at all I think there was just to much rain here .

mine didn't bloom. in fact, they haven't even been sending up pads for two weeks.

I did not get the blooms or the pads this year that I normally get. My WL also started blooming later this spring and I think they are finished for the year, so they have finished earlier. I think our cold rainy summer has been the culprit.

Last year I didn't get very many pads or flowers but this year they went wild. They covered half of my pond.

Mine is growing a good amount of flowers but most of them veer of horizontally and never make it to the surface. I don't get it.

I've had two blooms so far this year. Actually the first two I've ever had but they only lasted two or three days before dying back.



My hyacinths bloomed really well all through July then just quit.

Most waterlily flowers open on three consecutive days. Lack of fertilizer can cause slow growth and few blooms. Hardy lilies stop blooming as the days get shorter, tropicals bloom until a frost kills the foliage.

No fertilizer is probably the answer.

Mine were fertilized - same fertilizer spikes I have used for years. I think it has been our cool rainy summer. I am hoping next year is more towards a normal summer.
