The level where it stopped is where the potential leak will be. You might have a small hole in the liner. I would start by looking for any wet spots. examine the liner right above the water line, where the water is now after it stopped leaking.
I'm also losing water in my pond. I filled it up on Tuesday night, 12 hours later it was down about 3/4". Thursday it was about 2" but it's been holding for a day. I'll be damned if I can see where it's going.

Yep you look at the rocks that are away from the waterfall they are wet and are just wicking water up and drying out from wind or sun and then wicking more water up like se18 said .I had to rebuild mine because of the same reason .'Rocks or even retaining wall block will wick up water and that water and wetness does not go back in the pond

actually 1" every 4 days isn't bad. If I were you I'd install moss all over the place and make use of the wicking. A float device of some sort will keep you water level up.

since I use concrete, I get a lot of wicking. Here's the latest section I opened this weekend of my waterfalls and waterwheel. It's sort of temporarily in place until I can do some decorating. A flu will also transport water alongside the waterfalls

one of my Dory's sprang a leak and is quietly resting in the aqueduct. I left it outside over winter and water froze, causing a hole, which I can eventually patch. Right now it looks good on the bottom
