Last summer saw a 1x2" square of white bread floating in the pond??? I haven't had white bread in twenty years, seems the fish don't care for it either.

Located in the Phoenix metro area. This is my 1st full summer enjoying my pond. After what I think was a very haot summer, the temps are in the mid 90's during day and low to mid 60's at night. I noticed these oblong "things on the rocks, especially the rocks here water is flowing swiftly at the waterfall.
They are 1/2 in long and 1/4 in wide off-white to grey. I peeled a couple off and they have a rubbery consistency.
I noticed them on Wednesday and it appears they are "hatched" as of Sunday. T20171014_111537[1].jpg 20171014_111605[1].jpg hey appear to be breaking down. The only insects of note that I have seen around the pond are bees and many blue damselflies.

(sorry about the picture quality.) The 1st 2 pictures, I peeled a couple loose yesterday. The last 3 pictures (at night) show them attached to rocks.

BTW they have a rubbery consistency.

Can anyone help me identify them? or give me a clue as to where to start research.

TIA

Ed
