We're under an extreme cold weather alert tonight - wind chill values down below -40....:cautious:
I was going to split some more firewood tomorrow. I guess not now.
And then Sunday a Chinook arrives, bringing above freezing temperatures.
I'm guessing my wife's migraines will be active.

Winter around Calgary can really get extreme, our records for this day range between -42F and +63F.
The Chinooks we get can really make a difference.
DeCaprio should make a movie....oh wait - he did.:)

Sitting around and waiting for the snow to begin. They're still predicting 7"-11" of snow starting this afternoon and going all the way to tomorrow night, with a few breaks in between. We're right in between higher totals just north of here and lower totals south of the Illinois border, so it's possible we may see less or more. This is our third weekend snowfall in a row. On the bright side, we're up to 22°F today. That's 23°F warmer than it's expected to be on Sunday.
Yup, you guys up north are supposed to catch the brunt of it this time. We had a good blast of snow during evening rush hour tonight, which really slowed down traffic. Right now it actually looks like it's getting lighter or possibly even stopped. ? It will pick back up overnight, though, and then a mix of sleet/freezing rain/etc. tomorrow before the deep freeze moves back in. -14 overnight Sunday into Monday.

The retailers in the Great Lakes must be absolutely wringing their hands looking at their in-store holiday sales this year. Three snowy weekends in a row = three weekends people are not out shopping. It probably doesn't hurt the big box stores, but the mom-and-pop places that don't offer online shopping are surely taking a beating.

25f here and snow is falling down like little feathers so tiny you have to squint to see them. Not much hope for anything big happening here today. Oh well it tried :(

We've actually had nothing since I cleaned the driveway last night. Looks like totals are gonna be on the low end. We maybe had 5" yesterday, with a few more inches later today once the snow returns, but it was supposed to be snowy all day and we haven't seen anything at all today. Glad we got lucky!

A Chinook is a weather phenomenon that occurs on the east side of the Rocky Mountains here in Alberta that occurs when a low pressure system containing warm humid air from the Pacific ocean travels eastward. When that low pressure system hits the Rocky Mountains, the warm air is forced upwards and the moisture condenses and falls as snow in the mountains, but the warm air that now contains less moisture continues a short distance into Alberta and the areas in the foothills benefit from a sometimes drastic change in temperature.
We have seen days with strong Chinook winds (which can reach speeds of 100 miles per hour) warm up by 50 degrees F in 4 hours.

It finally started snowing again. The worst part about this snow is that I won't be able to clean it up until tomorrow morning, and the high temp for tomorrow is expected to be -2°F with windchills near -30°F. I'm gonna be FREEZING! :cold::cold::cold:
