I'm surprised you have that thick of ice.
Your pond looks like it's in a valley. I guess the cold air settles down there.

Surprised me too. My honey drilled it for me, I stuck a tape measure in, pulled on it until it grabbed the edge of the ice.

The pond is around 25 feet lower than the house, the yard continues a down hill slope after the pond, probably dropping another 30-40 feet until it bottoms out and starts going back up. When we look out our windows we are looking about 3/4 of the way up the maple tree, which is around 50 feet tall. We have not had a bunch of snow to help insulate it. It has been cold in the 10's teen's at night and 20's day temps, for a month or so. With minimal warmer days, i.e. 30's. Today we are bouncing back up to 50ish, then back down to teens.

The slope with the stream is not in the shot, that one you fall back more than you go forward when you walk up it. I need to measure the slope, all I know is when we walk it fast, it can take your breath quickly

And if it is wet, the 4 wheel drive truck slips, we usually have to back up it.

Mine was measured at a 33 1/2 degree slope in some spots and less in others .If I did not rock the hill it would have been steeper If I had it leveled to the road .We had no choice but to rock the hill

Warm, sunny, Spring day after such miserable stuff in the past few days. I won't hold my breath tho cuz the monster is coming back to ravage us some more w/the rains. Won't be as bad as it has been tho. Only lost power for 20mins, surprise, surprise!
