We're having kind of a goof-off weekend. Dreaming of spring while I do my wintersowing - starting my tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and some annuals.

get some bongs to cover the screws .It probably had some that fell off .I don't know how dark you want it but older wood needs prestain to keep the color even and will also take stain darker than expected

My husband wants it all light wood... I do t think he realized no mater which stain I use, the naturally darker color of the wood won’t let it show up a golden oak color. I might get streaks of a lighter tone, but it won’t be as pale as he wants.

Yep, I know about it being darker. I noticed that when I stripped it. The stain that was on it was about the color it is when wet.

Fully dry. It needs a touch up was in a few spots where I still see the stripper residue, and the wood is very dry, as in will absorb the stain a lot. Almost has the same kind of ashy look as dry skin!

    Love that bread box!

I am sitting here typing w/a mouth full of mouthwash. Well the dental hygienist when I asked her about if mouthwash does any good for plaque said "It doesn't stay in our mouth long enough to do much.............so I thought I'd keep it in as long as I could cuz I don't like plaque and I have trouble w/it on my bottom teeth, so there upload_2018-1-21_10-26-47.gif

Most mouthwashes have a high alcohol content and can dry your mouth out which can make things worse. Who knew?

I’ve never bothered prestain, I just re-washed it with Murphy’s oil soap to get the last of the paint stripper off and out of the nooks and seams. I tried a test patch of stain on the bottom, and it will be darker than he was wanting. I think I’ll do it all over with the golden oak, then go in with the gunstock color to accent certain wood grain patterns. I think it will be nice. But I discovered something I didn’t like; the back was replaced with pressboard at some point. So at a later date, I’ll see about replacing that with real wood. And I’ll be sealing all of it after I stain it, to prevent any more damage. It has two spots that were damaged from water/ liquid.

The red highlights, and started staining with golden oak. At a pause point now, to let it dry so I can flip it to get the other side. The red really isn’t standing out as much as I’d like, so I may end up doing some more layering of color in select areas to make it stand out more.

First layer of stain. I’m debating about diluting copper paint and rubbing it in to add a light metallic sheen. Then sealing it all. When I redo the kitchen, I’ll be doing copper colored counters, so it would go well.

I am using Crest Pro Health as it contains no alcohol and does not dry mouth out.

I have to go to the dentist on Wednesday and get a cavity filled! Haven't had one in many years. Oh well maybe the dentist needs some extra money....hmmmmmm? I do like a bit of sweet stuff now and then but not that much.
