I went for a long walk this morning and wound up in a random neighborhood. As I passed this pond, it really frustrated me and got me thinking - Why the hell do we have so many places just like this? This is more than five acres that could be some pretty incredible prairie and wetland habitat, could even have a nice mowed trail or border around it so people could enjoy it. Instead, the developers spend more money on mowing than they'd ever spend on maintaining a prairie, and nobody's ever going to walk out there or enjoy it. And it doesn't even look good! Could you imagine the plant and animal diversity that could be here?! These are the rants that go through my mind whenever I see poor open space like this.
