Whiskey, where is the bottom drain going? Is it for draining the pond or part of the filter? If your going to use it as part of your filter from everything I've read you don't want a belly or a hump in the drain line or your very likely to get air locked or clogged. The drain line should be level until the pipe starts to turn up then you should have a slow sweeping turn. I'm not real sure what your plans are but i have seen other builds where the builder had issues and thought I would throw the info out there for you just in case. Coming along nice! You've got your work cut out for you, be worth it in the end though! :)

Hi larkin my bottom drain going plum centre with flow from top pond and water wheel flowing in off centre, hopefully giving me a spiralling affect to bottom drain. I know about bottom drain mate.Photos show possition. but now able to dig deeper than thought, so will dig to b/d present level and dig deeper for b/d...and yes your correct in saying must be level all the way to first riser [elbow].
Photos of todays progress.....coming up.
AS FIRST PHOTO SHOWS IT COLD HERE FIRST THING.....Brrrr ..... last one shows height of wall around 1000mm [1mt] 39" and the third photo shows size of window....[ between blocks ] along with triagonal plant beds on each corner built in to blockwork,
Depth now to be 5ft in centre, with shelves around edge of varying depths.

Hi weather played a big part in todays dig ......or should i say non dig ground frozen, although did try for one hour before retiring to the comforts of a warm home.
Frame made for opening, 10mm longer and 5mm taller, than glass size, to use whilst building blockwork.

When wall built 5ft, although toying with plans to knock top right wall down and extend wall to decking................................ making it even bigger and making this part, a shelf for plant life.
Dont want a concrete jungle so will tone down with plants and timber cladding.

I like that idea you've come up with in extending the wall and having plant shelves! Your timber walkway looks nice and plants will add a lot to the view of it all!

I'm still floored that your doing all of this while it is around freezing (assuming my science memory is working that water freezes at 0 degrees C) where at this time I am in planning limbo. Although my weather has been really mild lately and sounds like its been close to yours. Keep up the good work, I like that you don't want the concrete jungle.

I have not read all of this thread so I might be suggesting something that has already been addressed. You mentioned glass for the viewing window. You might want to consider 1/2" Lexan instead. It is bulletproof and a lot lighter to handle. A broken window would be catestrophic.
