I like using barley pads in my pond and filters. But most of the stores I go to have small pads. So I bought a pound of barley seeds, the place that sells them have them for sale to grow for use in koi ponds. I planted half the bag and they started growing quick. You wait until the barley matures at around 50-60 days cut the barley down to the grown so it will regrow. Bag it up. I use large filter bags. Works great.

So Barley will just keep growing like perennial plants? Cut it down and it regrows or does it die in winter and then you need to replant and you get several cuts over the summer?

It will re grow after you trim it down. But in the winter it dies off and you have to re plant it. But if you let it reach maturity before you trim it back . You can get all the seeds off of it. To plant in the spring. I put mine in big planter boxes behind my bio filter.

It looks growing by the pond kinda like ornamental grass. I bought 1 pound of see for 5.00 and it will grow alot. I'm going to cut it down all summer and store it for use for a few years maybe share it with people

Great idea and nice of you to want to share w/ friends. It's light so you could even ship it maybe for postage or a trade for plants or something
