Wow.
This the problem with having too much power. You think that because you have the power that you are the one in the right.
Even Abraham Lincoln stated that "right makes might", not the other way around.
Your attitude is no better than the terrrorists. "I have a gun at your head so you had better agree with me"
Very disappointed with you Jersey_Marine.
There are other people in the world with legimate opinions other than Americans with guns. (No offense intended towards Americans in general)
What's the problem Mitch? He's just being very patriotic, or as some might put it, showing "loyalty" to his country. We should all admire him for it. ;)

At least I can rest my case now regarding the down side of patriotism and how it can lead people to make bad judgments.

Oh and by the way, I have plenty of friends and relatives that are citizens of the USA, no animosity here.

....

Ha, no I still separate patriotism from a loyalty standpoint.;)
Misguided loyalty I chalk up to lack of education and awareness of the world around us.
There is nothing wrong with being loyal to the USA.(y), thinking that you are the only one with the correct answer, that's a problem of arrogance.

In all fairness, I don't know if anyone read the stanza from the poem that I posted in the other thread, but my take on it was that any soldier that hesitates can very well be a dead soldier. So do you want a soldier that wants to debate every decision to fight, or one that keeps focused and gets the job done?
(We're assuming that Jersey_Marine is/was a soldier, maybe he/she was a marine biologist from Jersey )

Anyways, maybe it's not fair to get someone that's been trained to think a certain way to question their way of thinking. I don't mind some agressive pushback, as long as a conversation progresses somewhat. But, if someone can't continue a civil conversation, they should have the decency and self respect to bow out.

It really depends on what the job is and who's perspective you are looking at it from.
When some soldier gets the order from some out of control leader to push the button to fire the first nuclear missile that could potentially set off a nuclear world war, I really hope he questions the order and hesitates. In fact I hope he/she refuses to do it and sabotages the missile silo so nobody can fire the the dam thing. To me that would be a person to respect and admire, maybe even a hero.

Of course, they may have to wake him up first. lol

Ok, we can both agree that it would probably be best if some thought was put into pushing the button to start a nuclear war, lol.
The line really should be drawn somewhere.(y)

Any soldier, Marine,Naval or Airman with Jersey_Marines views has no place in any armed service, he would have been very quickly kicked out as unfit to be any of the above as being ultra patriotic .
As part of the military machine we are taught both to think as a unit but also are taught to think for ourselves where and when needed.
But we are also taught to show compassion to our fellow man unless they are combatents. [it has to be so or otherwise attrocities will take place this is why the geneva convention was put in place ].
In the Navy we were taught an unbelievable 6 jobs only one of those involved killing Seamanship, Fire fighting flood control Nuclear Biological and Chemical control in my case my job as an anti submarine warfare specialist and lastly first aid for any combatent be he the enemy or civilian.
We are not killing machines like the Nazis where compassion for your fellow man was lacking.
Jerseys way of thinking was wrong in that he thought himself better than others there is no god given right to "might" that way is a slippery slope to destruction ,
All Empires eventually fall no matter how heavily armed they are in the end .
As to him joining up on koiphen well I doubt hell last that long there either not with his views

Dave

Guess I missed all the postings, been making bee winter food all day. View attachment 86177 View attachment 86178

I can bring it up with the other mods if you all would want us to delete any out there posts as soon as they happen, it can be done. But Becky and Ian don't want to run the forum as a dictatorship. Where the mods would routinely delete what we thought should be deleted. Like Becky has stated discussions can happen, about anything, just keep them calm.
We try to catch posts / threads that get out of control, but sometimes miss them. Like today I have not even looked at the forum since early am.
My husband is getting ready to harvest honey next weekend and then make his winter bee food too. I'll have to tell him about you. He only has 4 hives, but has only been doing it for a couple of summers.
