Pond vs skimmer box

Hello, we have a new thing this year. Pond is dropping about 2-3 inches daily but the skimmer box loses water faster than normal. Our pump is super duper so it’s not the pump and I mitigated all splash from the waterfall. Why is the skimmer box at a lower level than the pond water?

The only time the water level in my skimmer is lower than the pond is because the filter is blocking the water flow and needs cleaned.
