does the uv clarifier go inline on the suction side or the discharge side? or, does it even make a difference?

with a submersable pump...if you have a pressure filter put it after the filter. if your filter is a gravity output (return to pond) put it before.
if you run an external pump and a pressure filter you can run it either side but after is reccommended. with a gravity return filter, obviously before.in general, if possible you want to filter the water before going thru the U.V..cleaner water makes the U.V. more efficient.

Thanks. We are installing this weekend a new waterfall filter with external pump so we weren't sure where but it looks like we have no choice but to put on suction side before filter even though would prefer to somehow install after filter because you're right it would help to have clean water.
