Well banner day, the pond dropped today to 39f. We have been darn cold, wind chills in the minus range. Day temps in the teens and single digits. Another week of these temps, so they say

It made it to about 7 degrees here today. Another night of record-breaking sub-zero is ahead of us... then a slight warm-up (but with snow) on Saturday... and then the last I checked there is a forecast of -10 AGAIN for Sunday night?? I hope that's incorrect.

We've got 1"-2" of snow expected tomorrow, and yes, Sunday night looks miserable, again...

I look forward to this time of year because we've made it through November, December, and January, and are well on our way to Spring. At the same time, March can be so cruel. Its one of those months where you never know what's going to happen. We've had years where snow was gone in early March and never returned, and then we have those years where there's snowfall until mid-April. Its rough closing in on March and knowing it might be one of those years we don't see Spring until April. So close, yet so far.

Hah, there is no way in hell I'd turn my thermostat down to 60, either. In this weather we'd be risking a busted water pipe setting the temperature that low. The upstairs bathroom sink at the old house always freezes up even when the heat for the house is set at 68-71--the pipes are against a poorly-insulated wall. I have to leave it dripping and leave the vanity doors wide open, take everything out of the cabinet so warm air can circulate against the wall... It's a pain.

We keep our house around 66- 68, when the sun comes up we heat up to 78-79. Go outside come back in feels beautifully warm. We only run a small vent-less propane heater. Leave the heat pump off completely.

If you're worried about pipes freezing, keep the water taps open to a slight trickle. The water flowing through them will help prevent freezing.

My pond temperature has actually warmed up to 36F.
Woke up to a skiff of snow this morning.

It was the most beautiful day yesterday, Rio Babe ran hard at the park and was mad when I picked her up and told her park play was over and it was time to go.
Today will be a different story, only going to about plus 2 Celsius, about 35 or 36 Fahrenheit, but it is way WAY better than living way down East!! Ha ha ha!!

My pipes all have insulated pipe wrap around them .I did that the first year we were in the house .Minus 9 degrees earlier this morning and now minus 4 but sun is out and curtains are open .I told the utility company to turn off all there darn street lights if they want to cut back demand .Out here if you want a street light in front of your home you have to pay 15 dollars a month .I put up LED lights around my house keep your street lights .Turn all them off also ,I am sure those big sodium lights they put up use a lot of electric .I hate the green glow ,looks like aliens are landing .Our normal temp for this time is 50 degrees .We are supposed to get a dusting of snow ,they say less than an inch .

Balmy 46 and raining. They can't tell us to turn off our wood stove or propane to save energy when it gets cold here. But then we don't ever freeze our butt's off here like you do back there either. Maybe you should have a propane/wood backup plan for back there? If they do get over run by too much electric being used could you have a brown or black out problem?

Wonderful 0f this morning and couldn't tell if heaters and pond breathers were working so slip and slid thru the snow only to find out everything was fine. There will be cameras soon!
