Spectacular thunder storm earlier this morning! Was in the middle of cleaning and refilling hummingbird feeders, so had to wait for the lightening to stop before I could put them out. Was one little hummer that was waiting for me, LOL!

Once the rain stopped, I went outside to check on the turtles. Was examining the plants in the turtle-bog.....and couldn’t find one of the cardinal flower plants! It was just......gone......eaten all the way down to the stems! I have started a thread about it under “aquatic plants.” It has to be a caterpillar, but it’s being very darn selective with its dietary choices!

What’s left......:(

My Cardinal plant is scattered allover the yard now, I love the red flowers, but the branches brake way too easy so I've been planting them here and there, amazing how fast they rooted

Hop on bike, then Costco to return sheets and buy other stuff. I thought I would try their on sale Micro Fiber Polyester sheets. Mistake for me. The darn bottom sheet would not stay in place and it felt like sleeping in between plastic. Felt cold and sweaty at the same time. Maybe some like them but not me. Sticking w/cotton. Then come home and throw more wood chips.

@sissy I try to drink water while out there and if hubby thinks I am not drinking enough he brings me more. Somehow I end up w/cuts on my arms and all bloody. Guess when you get older your skin really does get thinner!
jw, you're the only person I know that goes to Costco on a bike.:)

Today, I'm declaring war.
This is a picture of a hole in the ground.
A hole where a 1 foot basil plant was nicely growing.
I came outside the other morning to find this, and I blame the squirrels.
The whole plant was gone, including the roots.
I'm going to try trapping them with pasta next. What do you think?
Damn squirrels.

(Since I'm Canadian, I'll probably apologize afterwards.)

They left the sorrel alone.

Surround it with plants they don’t like. It’s so hot here my plants aren’t fruiting. The water lilly like it, I went in yesterday to “ catch some of the babies”, didn’t get any, but spent an hour in there enjoying myself and the scent of the lillies, being nibbles by fish. I’ve decided I need to build myself a shaded lounger, so I can tan my white legs so they match my arms better

The kittens have laid claim. The orange one claim me, the black one didn’t give hubby a choice, and the two love to cuddle when we humans won’t submit as willing slaves to their whims.

I blame the squirrels.
I didn't know they would eat basil. I have never seen our squirrels eat anything except the seeds.
The ground hogs/deer/rabbits eat almost anything that grows.

Well in reading on the web, they do eat anything that is tasty. Guess mine get enough of the falling bird seed to leave plants alone, or I have enough plants I never notice the damage. Probably the second statement is true.

You have no idea what I'm going through this year with the darn squirrels!
I've tried the spikes= I gained a mole
I tried hot pepper powder= I gained a bad rash

I've lost so many Dahlias cause of them burrowing underground and chewing the roots
I've never had it this bad! I don't know what to do!

taking out toilet and replacing the subfloor .The builder did not put enough support for the toilet and it keeps rocking a little .So more support and new subfloor and new wax ring .I guess he thought the metal I beam would be enough ,but it is too far away and did not support the back of the toilet flange .They put extra support for the front but not the back .Geeze what dummies .Had a party here and when you get friends who weigh over 390 pounds you need that support in the half bath .Toilet started to rock and no way to get at it from underneath because it is close to 2 outside walls .Lucky I am replacing the flooring anyways ,but more work for me COFFEE BREAK

Plant a hickory tree! We have hundreds of squirrels but the hickory nuts keep them busy.

Our neighbor planted Black Walnut trees and the squirrels love them................they also love burying them in our yard. I now go around yanking up all the sprouts of the Black Walnut trees! We have Filbert trees and they love them too and yes lots of sprouting of those also.

I gave up on the moles, just ride over them w/the mower and call it good!

Throwing more wood chips again today!
