Went out hunting for bargain plants after the world cup final. Oh those squirrels do eat whatever take their fancy, especially during hot weather. I really had the deer pegged as the culprits for eating my hosta plants, but no, it was a squirrel, my neighbor caught it on her critter cam having a taste test on her plants. So I kept an eye on my new flower bed out front, just kept looking out the window, sure enough down out of the tree he comes, and ate whole leaves of my hosta, nibbled some other stuff as well. Not sure if this squirrel has problems though, has no hair on his tail and looks rough. I don't think much would scare him away, I let my dog out an he just sat on the fence staring back at us. I really don't like the look of this one, I think this squirrel is going to be problematic.

Today, I'm declaring war.
This is a picture of a hole in the ground.
A hole where a 1 foot basil plant was nicely growing.
I came outside the other morning to find this, and I blame the squirrels.
The whole plant was gone, including the roots.
I'm going to try trapping them with pasta next. What do you think?
Damn squirrels.

(Since I'm Canadian, I'll probably apologize afterwards.)

They left the sorrel alone.

If you find a solution for the squirrels, I'm all ears.

They don't like hot pepper spice. Sprinkle some on the plant. Won't hurt the plant but will send the squirrel running, eee chi wowa!

Thanks. I have black pepper out already, but I feel bad for him now after watching him, as I think he is really old and probably starving, so I left an old bag of forgotten nuts from the trunk of my jeep near the tree. Maybe now my plants will live.

Thanks for the video @sissy. Finished most of my waterfall today. It will have a bog on top next year, I just can't dig anymore this year.
