I used to grow cattails in my pond which has a liner. Anchor them with rocks and don't worry about them penetrating an EPDM liner, it will never happen.

I have been using a small variety of cattails in my pond for a few years now, they grow anywhere you put them, just stick them between two rocks and they will take off. Their roots will grow under rocks in a thick mass and you have to keep them under control. Last year I had way too many in my creek and it took me quite a few hours in taking them out. Just don't plant them and forget em or you might regret it in the fall.

I made these little "baskets" out of the weed block cloth and cable tied it at the top... filled with kitty litter....then I shoved them between rocks so will see how they do!

Im in Phoenix AZ I love cattails because they provide good shade and kinda act as a hedge plant....my pond is against my back wall in my yard and gets a lot of sun

Neat, bet they do well and will look great. Watch the roots, bet they go through the cloth.

the cattails are actually in a half barrel. Hoping that they will help hide or at least camouflage the full barrel/filter behind them.
More signage around the pond below

very nice ponderpaul. I am sure the cattails will hide it well, when I have seen them out in the wild they are dense.
