My pond, so far, has not needed any water added. In fact I never add water in the winter. It is not 100% ice covered, today what ice there was is melting fast. See a few fish here and there, no bodies!

No bodies is a good thing - ha ha! I've had to add water in the winter before, only thing I can think of is the wind caused some evaporation.

We are doing the same here, hot! I still don't want to install the big pump, all is external, a bad cold snap, power off and the pump it toast.

I know! Here in SW Ohio, it's going to be around 70. I'm wondering if I should remove the pond cover, but worry, we'll get a cold snap.

Well, I did it. Started up the pump on Sunday. I know it will get cold again and probably more snow accumulation, but it can't last long!

Great news! I'm seriously thinking of removing the cover. I could run one pump, but am waiting on a part , so we can build the new filter.

Finally the sun is out and the temps are up in the 40's! Warm enough to go mess around by the pond.
Thought I would share a picture of what my pond looks like with all it's winter algae. I use to try to clean this up in the spring, but found that if I left it alone, it cleared up on its own.

I don't get that carpet of algae, no clue why. Off and on a small bit of string, but it disappears quick.

I figure with that much algae, the fish can't be starving!

A high pond water volume/"bog" ratio to fish population is a recipe for low maintenance and long term success.
It doesn't matter if your pond is 100 gallons or 100,000 gallons.

I'm very curious to see the state of my pond, when I remove it's winter cover. When I peak inside, the water appears clear and I can see the water celery growing and the moss and grasses, are a lush green.
