raising food...........catfish is good
I have a lot of customers that raise tilapia. that might be a better food fish.
Tilapia is great but if your water temp goes below 50 they die, that is what I've heard.

Some of them live in Ramona, Ca. It gets below freezing at night there at times in the winter. Their ponds have got to be in the low 50's at best. I will have to ask, next time I get a chance.

I was able to talk to one of the tilapia growers. He said that he starts losing them when the water drops into the 60's.
He also said the ones that do survive are more hardy and their offspring will manage the cold better.

In the size of some ponds that I see posted here you can use one of those small 1 person paddle boats I saw them in a pond here at a neighbors house they look like fun and exercise too

you use your feet to paddle them and they look like a boat I have seen them here in VA since I moved here a lot of the bigger ponds here seem to have them

One year update on the pond, everything is growing well. Catfish are 16 inches and good eating! Water plants are covering 70% of the pond.
Filter has been changed a little but is working well
