I discovered a rat tailed maggot in my little wildlife pond. I think it came via the Iris I'd transfered which had previously been sat in stagnant water.

FIGGY -- aren't those the creepiest looking things? We have a small fountain by the back patio that has only been collecting rainwater and yard trash [leaves] for a while -- no pump going as it kept tripping the circuit -- so was quite stagnate. I found some some rat tailed maggots in there and just about freaked! Once I found out what they were, though, I put them back where I found them so they could complete their life cycle.

BACK ON TOPIC -- my pond is too new, so haven't found anything unusual, weird or otherwise.

JW - interesting video! It doesn't look exactly like the ones I saw, but has the same "creepy" factor! Actually, when I found these, I thought they WERE pinky mice/rats that a momma had aborted and left in our fountain [we sometimes have wood rats, until the neighborhood cats get active]. "EWEEEEEEEW!" is right!

Had never heard of them, so did web search. Marvelously adapted critters.

OMG, if I found that thing in my pond, I'm afraid I may be done ponding. Ewww!

I too found a dead bird in mine, a Robin.

I have also found various toys and beer bottles at times. But with my family that's not really weird.

This year we had two mallard ducks. They seemed really out of place for our small pond.

The two that where hanging out moved on. So far no ducks, geese, herons have come to stay this summer.
