They have called for 4-5 many times this winter, so far we have gotten, in those storms, maybe 1-2. It could surprise us, has in the past.

We didn't get with the winds like you did, highest was 34, which was enough.

Right now chill is zero

I could not live without windows either. My new windows have been delivered to the lumbaryard, but not to my house yet. They are hoping to get them installed early March, maybe when I am on my cruise. When it's winter, and a sunny day, I open the blinds and let the solar heat in. In the summer, I close the blinds to keep the heat out. Even with my older windows (which are covered with plastic to past the trim, and that's doing a GREAT job!), I can keep my furnace from running at all on a 32F or warmer sunny day, by having the blinds open on the south and west. Amazing, if you ask me! I will need new blinds with the new windows, so will check out well insulated ones. Any suggestions? I don't have a high budget, so lower prices are best.
Oh, and here, no temps above freezing until next weekend, if forecast holds out. Wed. night, temps going to -9F for a low. Yikes! I'm NOT looking forward to that!
And, after absolutely no precip in forecast for a week when I looked yesterday, it's snowing and supposed to get 4-10" tonight through tomorrow noon. Good grief ... sure am glad I don't have to work tomorrow. I can enjoy seeing it and not have to deal with driving in it.

Speaking of blinds. We have the kind that hang down in strips and when you pull them closed it looks kind of like the wall. Ha Ha something funny happened yesterday. We were taking care of our little 2yr old grand baby and she fell asleep on the couch and when she woke up in the evening and it was time to go home she got up off the couch and ran over to the big window where we had closed the blinds and she started crying something awful and poked at the windows saying "Where did the windows gooooooooooooo?"...............she was sobbing hard. We had a chuckle over that one. She must have been in a delirious waking state still, poor thing, lol!

Those blinds are exactly what I was thinking I want, Addy. The ones that came in the house are: 2" wide slat wood blinds in the LR, and some bamboo type looking folding blinds in my bedroom. The other bedroom has broken vinyl blinds. So, will get a redo on all new windows. I like the bamboo ones ok, but since one window is now triple, and new will be double, the blinds for that window will not work. Also, thinking I want light colors, and now most are very dark wood or brown colors.
JW, your little girl story was adorable. ;)

They really help insulate from the cold. I got them from selectblinds.com http://www.selectblinds.com/ They have sales all the time, a nice one for pressie day today. Usually buy 3 get one free. I put them on our 5x8 foot windows, big big difference in the temp of the room when it is cold or hot from the sun in the summer. And if one does not work well they replace with zero issues. I had a few of the slider ones replaced the springs were not working well.
You just need to measure your windows decided if inside hanging or outside. If you can hang inside the window frame they insulate better.

We didn't have anything thing for a while, (I hung sheets over the windows in the summer to control the sun hit) I finally convinced honey it was worth it, not that bad of price, don't recall the totals but so worth it.
I put them on all the windows and sliding doors.

The front window has the wood blinds the only different one we have.

Now the Weather................
Well it is COLD zero or minus wind chills currently 3 degrees Now snow coming tonight 5-8 so they say, we will see, depends on how the cold hits that hot warm coming from the south. This, one looks real, might be our only big snow storm of the winter.

I am feeding the birds extra during this cold, no clue how those little critters can survive this cold. I toss out a lot onto the ground for the doves, cardinals and others.

Very cold here. A friend of my wife and her two kids came for a visit. I took the two boys ice fishing. They had never been. I rented a fishing shanty, with a propane heater. The guy plowed the way to the shanty, drilled the holes and started the stove. We used a cup of live minnows for bait. I brought my own container. The guy had an older kid get our minnows. When I got them to my truck, I thought the pail felt light. The kid didn't put any water in it. I showed the owner, and we both laughed, then he got them some water.. My wife and her friend followed us out with her car to check it out then left for a winery tour. The winds were 50 mph sustained, with higher gusts. The air temp was -1. You could not step outside for more than a few minutes. Nice and warm in the shanty though. We caught about 30 perch, and the youngest boy (9?) caught a 24 inch northern pike. We brought them home, and ate them for supper. There's nothing better than fresh fish in 35 degree water.

This morning my car temperature was reading minus 7, poor critters that have to live outside. I fill the bird feeders all year and also have a watering dish that I keep outside for the critters. It freezes pretty quick in this weather.

Insulated panels for behind your curtains are cheap also .I put them behind my curtains and the work great .You can hang them on rods or buy the panels you sew to existing curtains or you can buy insulated curtains or drapes .I had to sew mine on because the designer with my colors in mind did all the drapes for the house .Great thing about buying a norris built home .They pick everything send you samples and the do what you want .I put triple pane windows on the front of my house and double pain on the back .Wish I had used triple pain through out .I have decided this year to spend money to insulate the basement walls inside .The floor was insulated before the concrete was done and the walls are semi insulated outside but they still get cold .Not sure if I will have it spray foamed or do the panels .Spray foam guy was here and with my senior discount it would be around 800 dollars for 1 1/2 inch and then I would have to paint over it to seal it since it will be exposed .So far just a dusting of snow here
