Maybe it's time to get the pond breather out already.
El Nino this year too, so we're scheduled to have another warm winter I hear.

Addy, your weather sticky doesn't seem to be working.

Sort of murky here, possible rain, lots of moisture in the air, just none falling.

Yeah, so it's starting to snow...:shifty:

I still can't put out some plants yet.
People around here thought it was ok to put out plants, seems we had days in the 80's. We had two frosts last week, and a chance for one next week. My wife and I built a 32 foot by 8 foot raised bed for vegetables, out of pressure treated 2 x 12's. Looking for quality, screened top soil now. Then, mix some other good stuff into it. Maybe get a garden planted memorial day weekend.

Nice Mike, I did a raised bed last year. I used cedar 4X6.
We have a real vole issue around here plus we lost a lot of vegetables from hail. A raised bed will allow better protection from critters and weather, more control over watering and weeding. I did put some plastic screening on the bottom to prevent voles from coming up from underneath.
I really want to get it going, but we got 2 inches of snow last night.
The project just seems to keep getting put off.

When you look for top soil, try to find a supplier that uses manure that won't have pesticides or herbicides in it.
It makes a big difference on how well your vegetables grow.

You had such nice weather earlier in the spring. We were getting snow during that time.
.
I should add, we built the bed inside the 4 strand electric fence. That was built after the deer ate bark off the apple trees. Amazingly, I think they're going to recover. We have blueberries and raspberry plants in that area too. The strawberries are out back. Nothing seems to bother them.

We have lots of wild strawberries, the bears like those.

I also wanted to mention that you local gardening club will probably be a good resource for finding quality topsoil. My wife and I belong to the one in Calgary and the club was successful in having a large local landscaping company change compost/topsoil suppliers because of the difference that healthy compost can make.
