Pretty sure there's more biomass of ferns and moss across the street from me than people in WA.

Another day of rockin' w/ Dad. Slow and frustrating with this new batch of bigger boulders, but happy with results.

We found Barney's limits today when a BIG BOY started bouncing the machine on its way down into the hole. I was wondering when we were going to hit its limit. Some of these in the 1100-1500 lbs range. No problem if lifting over the front and setting close by, but we were trying to get some big ones down into the center, and could only lift over the side.

Bottom is starting to look a lot more interesting.

Sidenote: Having the realization now just how much water volume you lose rocking in a pond with big boulders. I estimate there's about 20 tons of rocks in the hole at this point. Basalt is 150 lbs / cf, which means the rocks are occupying almost 2,000 gallons worth of water space.

are you leaving enough room for the kids to swim??? Sheesh, that's a lot of volume loss! On the other hand, I can just see GB's smile broadening as he sees your progress rock pics...

Um he lives maybe 4 hours from a tempid rain forest where ferns and moss own every inch of land
ya know, GB, SOME people just don't WANT to accept help... :D :D

Then again, guess we all know where YOU'LL want to spend your eternity, hey? We used to call a lawn crew helper 'mossman' because by the time he was done for the day, his legs would be all covered with grass, hence the name, but I'm thinking YOU'RE the true 'mossman' around here!

I love it out there the mountains , lakes and streams , the high desert, rain forest, the incredible mammel diversity . The ocean , ocean cliffs, all the sea birds , the MOSS the upper west coast is an amazing place. I have spent months traveling washington and oregon. If i could find a secluded place out in the hills id love it . But alass its not a great place for bikes as the moss grows so fast out the it grows on tge roads and it might as well be ice.

The rocking slowly but steadily continues. Underwater lights arrived last night. Those won't go in for a bit, though. Bottom shelf was re-arranged, thanks to @GBBUDD for a few good pointers on that one. Think I'm going to need one more load of boulders to finish up the main pond.

There are a few rock arrangements that I really like (that few will ever see) and a few that I really dislike and need to redo (that everyone will see).

Dag nabit! Just realized I forgot to dig a pipe trench for my stream plumbing before setting boulders on both sides of where stream will fall into pond. Now liner is pinched and can no longer fold it back to dig it out. Will have to come up with new plan to disguise plumbing.

Overhead shot from the roof. Rain delay on the build today. In the mean time, dreaming about the rest of the landscaping. Coming off of the deck, you'll walk over a small stream via a stone slab bridge onto a patio. Thinking the patio will either be a flagstone or large paver with 2-3" gaps between for planting moss, creeping thyme, or some other ground cover. Also considering a grass paver (that concrete lattice stuff) to expand lawn space and keep the area more green.

In the bottom right of the photo, you'll see a big, round concrete structure. It's big and ugly, so trying to come up with ideas to hide it while maintaining access. One idea is to make a giant faux boulder to cover it. Another idea was to move the fire pit here and and build it around/over it. I think it's too close to the house and deck, though. Might not be the safest place for it. If anyone has ideas, let's hear 'em!

Also gotta figure out where to put the hot tub.
