Larkin, I know very little about photography. I usually just sit pondside until the fish calm down.
I always use the flash outside, never take pic's when the sun is glaring directly on the water,
and like I said, don't feed the fish, and wait a few seconds before jerking the camera away
after gently pushing down the button.

also talk to your fish the say way you talk to your dog.

Joann you have a very shallow area there where they can come right up to and get photographed. Do you ever have trouble w/ the heron or other critters bothering your fish in that shallow area? And you must have a really nice camera too.

JW, no herons. we live in a wooded area, big trees, Herons don't like to land in areas
surrounded by trees.
Racoons -- we trap a few each season and reloclate them. Possoms don't bother our fish.
I have a cannon 720 and upgraded to a cannon 750...but I prefer the 720.

Those are nice camera's from what I reviewed. Mine is just a simple Canon SD1200 but it takes decent pix and price was right for me. My fish won't pose for me like yours do tho :D

This is a very helpful thread! I have always had a hard time taking pictures. I see something beautiful but by the time I take the pic it looks nothing like it does in real life

Here are some pics I took of my fish. I don't feed my fish so they aren't trained to come when I walk up. However I have a couple comets that love it when I get in the pond. They follow me around and swim figure 8's between my legs lol

Here are some I took. I think I need crystal clear water and maybe a better camera.

This is Angelina (named because she seems to be the prettiest fish in the pond, all the boy fish like her lol)
When they are chasing her around too much I stand in the pond, she comes right to me, and takes cover between my feet. I shoo all the boys away with my hands while she rests. Funny fish

Here's a baby shubunkin nibbling on my feet

Angelina is pretty w/ her flowing tail! It does feel funny when they nibble on ya when in the pond. Rather a relaxing tickling kind of feeling. Getting a free defoliating session, lol!
