So are we, what are the potential issues?
Depends on who you talk to, some feel the asphalt shingles are bad, add stuff to the water, some worry about the dust, dirt, pollen that lands on roofs, pollution etc.

I have fed gutter water to all of my ponds, (no koi) have never had an issue.

Pond digging will be done today. Plan has been refined to one pond plus splash pool. I know the pond needs to be 4' deep minimum, I am 5' tall so it might be worth making it 4.5' max? How long, how wide and what shape? I think I will discuss with my mother (family artist) but if anyone has any do's or don't's please let me know :D
Shape is up to you but keep the shapes smooth, try not to have any go into points, this can create stagnate areas due to lack of water flow.

The only thing on a roof that may be the worst is pollen in the spring and if your roofing shingles are really old or you get a hail storm .My pond is rectangular and like that shape because all you have are the folds in the corners

our roof has clay tiles and PVC guttering so it's all fairly inert I think, and we don't have a lot of air pollution so I think it will be ok.

Hi guys, thought I'd update you on the state of our ponds! It's been a while and the system is now up and running, pond life included. The largest pond (the fish pond) has now got fish, 17 goldfish (all about 2 inches long) and 4 grass carp (which I've read are not suitable for the pond, but they're in there so I'm not sure what I can do about it now). We had frogs spawn in both the fish pond and the splash pool, and there are now froglets everywhere, which is awesome. There are 2 water lilies in the fish pond and 1 in the splash pool, plus some blanket weed and what looks like some elodia which came in with the lilies presumably. Yesterday while I was in the garden I noticed tiny fish in the pond, and caught a few. Looks like the goldfish have been breeding? I was told that technically our pond was already overstocked, but they are breeding, what do I do?

Yup - you've got babies! Not much you can do to stop the breeding, but we learned to stop feeding when we saw the spawning activity. The adult fish will eat the eggs and keep the population under control.

We'd love to see pictures of your completed project!

Just a question, our fish pond is around 1500 gallons, just over. How many goldfish would you guys say it could take?

I am not sure why but sometimes photos end up in the moderation que for approval. Do the upload a file, the button below, that way they don't end up in the moderation area.
