Hello!

I’m gathering ideas for my long term goal of starting a pond and I was wondering if you guys have any photos of ponds that you find particularly inspiring, or ponds that you aspire to emulate one day.

I’d love to see pics of your ponds or ponds you admire, and to know what you think makes them special.

Thanks in advance for sharing the inspiration!

Like @GBBUDD said there are tons of awesome ponds on the web and on here (too many to name just a few)…..As he has mentioned also many times on here using large rocks, dead wood, and having the ponds water edge meander outside what/where you think the pond edge should be is what makes an interesting/natural looking pond to me….oh yeah and a must is having a well integrated bog filter, imo.

To me one of the other missed opportunities in building your pond is to take full advantage of the used energy and cost THAT WE USE PUSHING THE WATER . if your going to pay to have it moved to a new location why not make it just a little higher or further. so long as you don't go to far or high the head pressures won't reduce the flow to where the human eye will notice. But the payback is so rewarding. My water is pumped about 50 feet from the main drain to the pump and or to the bog But i have cut that down with the pond expansion that allowed gravity and self leveling to carry the water back toward the bog with no additional energy needed. If i get ambitious i may make the extension with a new stream and have it end right at the foot of the bog some 6 feet bellow the bog making a full circle. Place a much smaller pump there as the 50 feet pipe with 6 feet of lift will be cut down to 6 feet of lift . The start of the video found here https://www.gardenpondforum.com/threads/going-for-it-phase-one-12-000-gallon-pond.22563/page-51 shows the black retaining wall that is actually 6 feet high , well from there to the disapearing falls im thinking of an other stream with a few drops and a catch basin /pond for the pump to pull from but it would be directly under a very large maple tree. but in the same breath it will be Hey i can dream. And no your never done

Hours of inspiration can be found here https://www.gardenpondforum.com/threads/some-very-impressive-pond-builds.26353/

Thanks for praise @Dimelius

As far as building a pond go to you tube for
The pond digger
Modern design aquascape
Aquascape
Team Aquascape
and by no means last Atlantis water garden
I've watched an embarrassing number of pond digger videos over the last week. His 56 part series on building a koi pond was viewed in like...a day. Yikes! Super cool channel though. I tried his podcast while commuting. Something was lost in the transition between formats.

Thanks for these suggestions!

Here my answer and don't need to check far away in the net...i think 3 insane and stunning ponds. If i had more space i want to mix their ideas and made my own pond from that.

I love these ponds!

I've enjoyed looking at pond videos online (or "pond porn" as hubbie calls it), including all the channels that @GBBUDD listed above. Addictive stuff!

But one thing I find frustrating is that the great ponds and cascades built by the likes of the Aquascape folks all require heavy equipment -- if not for the digging, then certainly for the rock placement. As much as I would love to be able to bring in an excavator or a backhoe, it's not going to happen; not only can I not afford it, but even if I could, access would require dismantling the whole garden!

So the ponds you guys have built, mostly without the heavy artillery, is what is really inspiring me to get my own little oasis finished!
