Hard rain all day yesterday overflowed pond, not a big deal just a puddle in the walkway. I bet the water temp dropped but I didn't go check.

If you need help considering shade plants, look me up...I have a fair amount of experience with them. Your pond is beautiful btw! So jealous!

A lot of rain the last few days, pond looks cloudy. Fish seem fine, I may get the test kit out but it is what it is. The yard loves it!

mowed my grass yesterday and trimmed it and weeded .So nice to weed when ground is wet .Went to the flea market in the morning with my sister first .Today I will finish the other side of the yard .The pond water has been really clear and water tests were good so no worries there .But last night I did see bert chasing aggie on the camera .

Have the pond and yard up and running here in Chicago. We bought our house almost three years ago and I see the yard plants coming in the best so far after a complete DIY makeover in the last two years. The pond was installed last year with the plants in the area behind the waterfall really coming in well. The pond water is a bit green. Guess I have to let it balance out in the next few weeks. Added several plants recently - creeping jenny, parrot feather, sweet grass, and Louisiana iris. I didn't save my water lilies (forget about them in the garage and they froze). Now waiting of local stores to stock water lilies. I'm hoping that the pond gets more mature this year and over the winter so I have a much better start next year. The water cleared up very well last year about 5-6 weeks after I built the pond. Hoping 2-3 more weeks before the pond clears up this year.

BTW - I entered the pond in a beatification contest for the Historical Chicago Bungalow Association; one 2nd place (http://www.chicagobungalow.org/design-inspiration/driehaus-awards/driehaus-gallery-holloway-2). Of course, I thought I should have got first pace but I wont first place last year for best free project with my rain barrels.
