People are evacuating to North Georgia. The Atlanta Motor Speedway has announced it is open to campers. I think quite a few Wal Mart parking lots are starting to have tenants.

What kind of protection are "parking lots" for folks? I would rather stay in my house than be in a vehicle in a parking lot.

I don't think it's for protection - it's out of the path of the storm and somewhere folks can stay where they at least have access to water, toilets, shower, etc. even if it means sleeping in a vehicle.

Latest it will dead hit on Miami, Jose predicted to turn north into the Atlantic, missing Florida. But it can change again.

I'm yanking out the pump filter and waterfall as late as I can.
Everything else I'll have fortified by Friday morning.
I've double protected our North facing windows.
I've parked our three vehicles right up against the house.
I hope the house remains intact. Even though I know that's just not likely.
I'm sure you're worried and exhausted from the storm preparations. Prayers for your safety.

I should have said "RV tenants" at the Wal Mart. They have always offered free overnight parking to RV travelers. I think they came here thinking north Georgia would be totally in the clear. Then the track moved west.

Untill it hits..Exactly where is anyone's guess.
But this thing has a 50 mile eyewall.
So even south of Miami will envelope an area almost to Palm Beach.
Then the rest of the storm is wider than the state.
It's kind of splitting hairs at some point.
There is no other storm that this can compare to.
Not one hitting Florida.
Andrew was just a tot compared to this monster.

I'm going into Email only mode in about 24 hours and I'll reply until I can't.
I'm Ed.

Latest it will dead hit on Miami,

Been watching the coverage all day. Definitely not good news for those hoping it was going to stay east. Just thankful Florida won't be getting the rain like Houston did, and thankful the winds, though still seriously damaging, will be considerably weaker than yesterday.

I am so fascinated with big storms. Hurricanes, blizzards, it doesn't matter. Once the non-stop coverage starts, I can't look away.

Egads! Certainly not as devastating as for Florida, but the path has changed and looks like we could potentially be right in the inland version of Miss Irma. All those evacuees will be really cranky she is following them.
